Welcome

Meet Erica Rubio

Hello, my name is Erica. I am a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #148990) and a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC #17515). I also teach part-time in the Child and Adolescent Development Department at California State University, Northridge (CSUN).

I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, from Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology. I have completed over 2,200 hours of clinical experience, working with a diverse range of clients—including children, teens, adults, couples, and groups—across both nonprofit and private practice settings.

I currently practice in a private setting in Westlake Village under the supervision of Mary Ann Lovegren, LMFT #39405, supporting children, teens, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, and family or relationship challenges.

I am half Armenian and was born and raised in California. As the oldest daughter in my family, I learned early on the importance of empathy, responsibility, and caring for others—qualities that continue to guide me in my work as a therapist today.

My journey toward becoming a therapist was shaped both by my own experiences growing up and by witnessing how therapy helped loved ones heal and grow. These experiences inspired my passion for helping others—especially children and teens—find their voice, build confidence, and feel truly seen and supported.

They also continue to guide my commitment to creating a safe, compassionate space where clients can feel heard, understood, and supported on their own unique path toward healing and growth.

My Experience

Before becoming a therapist, I volunteered at Strength United, a nonprofit supporting survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. I worked on their 24-hour crisis hotline, providing immediate support and guidance, and became a State-Certified Sexual Assault Advocate. In this role, I gained over 400 hours of experience helping individuals and families, collaborating with police officers, nurses, and other professionals to ensure survivors received the care and resources they needed.

While earning my graduate degree, I completed over 1,000 hours of clinical training at the Free Clinic of Simi Valley, where I worked with children, teens, adults, and groups facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and relationship difficulties. During this time, I was trained in sandtray and play therapy. I learned to incorporate creative and expressive methods into my work with young clients to help them process emotions and build healthy coping skills in a safe, supportive space.

These experiences reinforced my belief in the power of listening, empathy, and human connection, and strengthened my commitment to helping clients navigate life’s challenges with understanding and care.

My Approach

As a therapist specializing in both children and adults, I offer a warm, supportive and empowering environment for personal growth, resilience, and emotional healing.

My focus is on guiding and empowering children, adolescents, and adults, utilizing a client-centered, strengths-based approach, instilling hope, and creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel truly heard and supported.

Outside the Office

Outside of my work, I find peace and joy through photography, music, and spending time in nature. These moments of creativity and reflection help me stay grounded and connected.

I also enjoy spending time with friends, family, and my two miniature Australian Shepherds - Hazel and Harley.

I pride myself on being authentically who I am, both in and outside of the office, and I carry that same openness and genuineness into my work with clients.
